Sound Chair

Matthew Plummer Fernandez's 'Sound Chair' is the 3-dimensional interpretation of a sound wave graph brought to life. Visually - it's lovely, conceptually - it's intriguing, but the thing just looks uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure I would end up breaking all those little tips offs one way or another.

Hi, thanks for including my work on your blog, you are right about the lack of comfort and spikes breaking but this is becuase the current version is in a prototype material - expanded polystyrene. Developement has started on the next version made from either polyethylene or self-skinning foam, which will make the spikes spongy, longlasting and comfortable to sit on. The future models will be ready and on show at designersblock - london design festival, and possibly also at the maison and objet fair in Paris. I'll be presenting some new work too so watch this space.
thanks

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for the info - spongy spikes, oo-la-la...the final touch for a very cool chair. Feel free to email me new photos or updates when you have them and I'll be happy to post them.
